Alice In Borderland Review (MINOR SPOILERS)

After I watched Squid Game, I loved it so much that I went online to look for shows or movies that were similar to it. The first suggestion that I got was a show called Alice In Borderland, which is available on Netflix as well. I would argue that this show was even better than Squid Game for multiple reasons, although they were both amazing shows.

The main character, Arisu, is in a rich family with a really successful brother. Arisu hasn’t been as successful in life, so he just kind of sits around and plays video games all day. One day he and his brother have a conversation that upsets Arisu, and he leaves the house in a rage. He texts a groupchat with his two best friends, Chota and Karube. They run around town, having a great time, then out of nowhere everything goes quiet and all of the power goes off. Their phones stop working too. They look around and it appears that everyone in Tokyo has disappeared. They’re contemplating what to do, then a giant sign lights up that says “Game Arena This way —->.” They go to where the sign is pointing, and find a little room with phones on a table that says “One Per Person.” The phones turn on to reveal that they’re entering a minigame that they must complete, or they will die. A woman shows up to play the game too, which reveals that not everyone has disappeared, just the majority. They’re forced to play a sadistic game in order to survive and obtain a playing card as a prize.

First of all, the concept of this show is absolutely amazing. I would have never thought to create something like this and I give all props to the director and production team. This show is intense in the best way, and there is a lot to suggest that there is going to be a second season. If you enjoyed Squid Game, I highly recommend watching this show as well.
