So for this project it was fairly easy, there were a few complications but we managed to figure it out through trial and error. For the start of this project, we were given a two, 2ft piece of wire and a wooden block with 4 holes for the wire. We had to create an abstract shape with the two pieces of wire that didn’t cross each other on the block. After we had finished the wire portion we had gotten a pair of pantyhose and cut off a portion with the toes and put it on one of the wires and repeated the process with the other side of the structure. At this point, pantyhose are covering the entire structure and with the extra fabric, it’s placed underneath the wooden block.
For the next portion we got Elmer’s glue and started coating the pantyhosed cover structure. This part is important because it hardens and stiffens up the pantyhose so we are able to paint over it. I needed a total of 2 or 3 layers. Depending on how thick you lay the glue down you’ll need more or fewer layers.
The next part was very challenging for this one specific reason. The base color I used was white along with a lot of other kids. I had done mine first since I have a free fifth and decided to be a little ahead of the others. Mine ended up being like a test run because the paint kept on cracking, do we know why? No. Me and Ms. Alonzo (my very lovely art teacher) did so many tests to see what we could do to eliminate the cracking. One thing that did work pretty well was spray painting the stocking. After that mess of trial and error, we got to the actual painting of our sculptures. Since it was abstract I decided to go for blobs of colors. I think my design was pretty cute! I only used pastel colors from basing it off of my paint palette. Unfortunately, I never finished it so there is a lot of white but that’s okay it looks pretty and also looks intentional.
My rating for this project is 8/10. It was like a 2 week project, so it went very quick. Also having complications with painting wasn’t fun. The amount of paint that was used to figure out the problem was less than desirable. Otherwise, it was really fun and simple and I would do it again!
