This song is about the fear of being replaced and the fear of everyone secretly hating you. The entire Pre-Chorus is about what the artist believes their friends are saying behind their back.
There is also an underlying theme of relying on someone else in order to simply just get through a day. In Verse 3 there’s a line that says “If you leave me, then I’ll be afraid of everything.” This means that when the artist says that they’re scared of waking up with someone in their place, it stems from a fear of being abandoned by this person who is never named. They believe that the only reason that they’re alive is that they get to be with this person, and when that stops happening then they’ll be replaced and forgotten.
