On Tuesday, January 11th, El Diamante boys’ and girls’ soccer played Hanford to start off their 2022 WYL season, meaning that league play officially began. The boys’ teams played in Hanford, both winning their games. The junior varsity team won their game 3-0 and the varsity team won their game 2-1. The girls’ teams played at home and both teams won as well. The JV team swept the bullpups, as they won their game 6-1. The girls’ varsity team played in a very competitive and physical game with fog rolling onto the field from both sides. The girls’ varsity soccer team had not beat the Bullpups in the past three years. The score was 0-0 when the 80 minutes of play ended. Going into overtime, the Miners were tired but had their minds set on clinching the win. In the first 10 minutes of overtime, Keyana Speight of El Diamante scored on the bullpups, ultimately leading to victory for the Miners girls’ varsity team. The girl’s soccer team’s next game is on Thursday, January 13th against Lemoore at home. Come out to support your Lady Miners!
