COVID and VUSD Staff Shortage

While cases are going up due to the new variant, staff shortages are becoming an issue. Bus route delays may be running up to 30 minutes a day late for the rest of the week. Families should prepare for these delays and stay with their children due to these long delays. According to the notice, it is not possible for the district to determine which routes will be impacted beforehand. Parents reported buses were anywhere from 30-45 minutes late Wednesday morning. VUSD is currently looking for substitutes each day due to all the staff being out. Last week over 260 Visalia Unified staff were reported to be in quarantine or isolation, while around 81 staff tested positive for COVID-19. Teachers and administrators throughout the district reported being pulled into other classes to help cover, and many no longer have a free period – time set aside for teachers to grade papers and prepare for classes later in the day or week.
