Today New Yorkers are seeing a very dangerous ice threat. Governor Kathy Hochul warned people today of sleet, freezing rain, and snow that is all being brought on by the winter storm that can bring dangerous conditions for the state. The National Weather Advisory has issued a winter weather alert for the Empire State through Friday night. Also adding on a travel advisory until Saturday morning, forecasters warned of dangerous, icy conditions on the road. On News12 Governor Hochul said, “This is a very serious storm… it’s throwing everything at us” as well as saying “You can always shovel snow and plow it out of the way, but when there’s ice involved, that is where it gets really treacherous” and “The roads are slippery, they’re ripe for disaster. If people are out there traveling, we’re absolutely encouraging people to stay off the roads as long as you can today”. Governor Hochul also said that some parts of the north of Rockland and Westchester counties will have a “major ice event” while New York City will have “some ice but mostly rain”.
