Snoop Dogg Takes Over Death Row Records

Thirty years after being signed to the legendary rap label that launched his career into greatness after helping produce his hit debut album “Doggystyle”, rapper Snoop Dogg has acquired the legendary “Death Row Records” record label. Originally, Death Row Records was founded by Dr. Dre, Suge Knight, the D.O.C., and Dick Griffey and quickly rose to mainstream prominence in the ’90s. It wasn’t particularly clear as to how much Snoop had to pay to acquire the label, which filed for bankruptcy back in 2006 and was sold six years later as the main founder Suge Knight was having major financial and legal troubles (who is now serving a 28-year sentence for vehicular manslaughter in 2015). Despite its troubled history in the early to mid-2000s, the record label was and still is considered legendary for its huge success in the ’90s and is renowned for catapulting the careers of people like Nate Dogg, Tha Dogg Pound, Tupac, and of course Snoop Dogg. But with his acquisition of the company, Snoop has also dropped a new album titled BODR, which stands for “Back On Death Row” as a commemorative piece that shows that he plans to take this iconic record label and revive it into something that can compete in the modern rap game. People are excited to see the direction that Snoop decides to take the beloved rap label, and are interested to see what kind of people are signed and the quality of the music produced.
