Plant Propagation

Plant propagation is the process of growing a plant from a different variety such as cutting. To do this, you take a plant stem and cut it below a node, where the leaf meets the stem and put it into either water or dirt to grow an entirely new plant.

The process of growth takes a different amount of time depending on which method you use, but it shouldn’t take more than a week or two to start sprouting roots. Propagation is most successful in water rather than dirt, especially if you’re doing it within your house.

Typical propagation begins with cutting a plant at its node, placing it into the water for a few weeks while waiting for it to grow roots, then when the roots are about 2 inches in length the plant can be transferred to soil and grow as normal with a normal watering schedule.
