This week school resumed after spring break. Along with springtime and my school routine, many new thoughts entered my mind this week. It’s not anything groundbreaking or really that important, but I thought writing these thoughts out would be beneficial!
Recently in my English class, we were asked to write an argumentative essay about whether or not entering adulthood early is more beneficial than waiting until the average age. I chose to argue the drawbacks outweigh the benefits. It took a while for me to decide my stance, but ultimately my own experiences shaped my decision. This prompt and the provided sources helped me to rediscover how amazing a child’s mind is. I really enjoyed writing the essay, which was a nice feeling for a change.
This week I also challenged myself to do some research of my own on California’s new legislative bills. It wasn’t incredibly difficult, but it was still a new experience for me. My results were quite shocking and heartbreaking, but nevertheless, I was glad I knew what was going on in my state. I followed my dad’s research method as I ventured through article after article. His method is looking at different points of view (such as the political right, left, and those who are neutral), and then looking at the direct source. I definitely recommend that everyone does this when they want to make an informed decision and learn more about a topic!
