Tips for Improving Drawing Skills

I’ve been drawing characters for about 3-4 years. I want to share some tips that have improved my drawing skills.

1. Figure drawing

Figure drawing or croquis is usually drawing a model at a limited time. Rather than detailing parts, like the face, one has to capture the features and draw the overall flow of a model. The ability to understand the flow and shape of objects improves, and it is beneficial in studying the human body. There are a lot of pictures of models on croquis websites and YouTube videos.

Croquis has many different styles and each person has a different style. In my case, I focused on the lines and muscles.

2. Referencing

Some people think that people who draw well do not use references. However, many professional illustrators frequently use references. In my case, I drew using pictures of wrinkles, hands, and objects for references. This helps to increase the quality of drawings.
