If you have watched the news recently or even have the app TikTok downloaded, then you may have heard about the D.E.A’s warning concerning a potentially deadly drug that looks like candy. It is made with bright colors to appeal to young people and goes by the name of Rainbow Fentanyl. Law enforcement has seized the so-called drug in 18 states so far, and it has even been said to resemble pieces of sidewalk chalk. When taken into crime labs they’ve found that it is all regular fentanyl with dye. Many, including federal agents, have begun to believe that it is a branding initiative to directly target younger Americans. What many don’t know is that Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is 50x stronger than heroin and 100x stronger than morphine. 10-15 grains of table salt worth is equal to a lethal dose of it. With that information, we as a country need to be cautious of what we consume, especially knowing that Halloween is coming up. Parents need to ensure that their children are not given laced candy or the drug itself.
