The odd thing about friendships is that you can think you know someone your entire life and then wonder if you ever did. Like when your best friend starts dating. Even though you are happy for them, you gradually begin to notice how they change, or at least in my situation. They inevitably slip away, and all you can do is watch them. Despite your best efforts, they never seem to have time for you, or you start to feel like a burden. After a while, you give up altogether, and when you see each other in the hallways, you are just strangers. Even though they never made an effort to keep the friendship alive, you start to wonder whether you are the issue. Nobody should ever experience it, but the sad truth is that they do. So, the following advice is created in my best interest to help others understand what to do in these situations:
- Talk to your friend. Let them know how you feel.
- Ask if you can spend time with them. A little hangout wouldn’t hurt anyone.
- Talk to their significant other. Make sure you’re on the same terms.
- Communicate and show them that you care.
- Spend time with yourself. Understand your boundaries and your expectations.
