As most of us have heard a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Turkey on February 6th. There were many lives lost and there were many babies who had to be put up for adoption, and sadly there is uncertainty for their future as of right now. Here is a story about this baby girl who is known as a miracle. A baby was born under the rubble of a collapsed home in Syria. Her mother died right after giving birth. This baby girl was under the collapsed home for more than 10 hours. When she was rescued she was still connected to her mother’s umbilical cord. She was immediately taken to the nearest hospital and even though she had many cuts and bruises she was a healthy baby girl. Many people were offering to adopt her but she was discharged after a DNA test confirmed her Aunt Hala was a blood relative. This was the only immediate family nearby that survived this massive earthquake. Aunt Hala and her family adopted her and named her Afraa after her mom’s name. Aunt Hala’s husband, Afraa’s uncle told news reporters “She’ll be a memory for me, for her aunt, and for all of our relatives in the village of her mother and father.” They also reported that Afraa will be treated just as if she was their child.
