An Overview of The Smiths

The Smiths are an English rock band that was formed in Machester in 1982 and recently I have been listening to them more and more and appreciating the music they have made. The Smiths consist of lead singer Morrissey, guitarist Johnny Marr, bassist Andy Rourke, and drummer Mike Joyce. In their career they have released four studio albums and 5 collections with their most famous record being their self-titled album “The Smiths’ ‘ but their album “The Queen is Dead’ is also well-praised. The Smiths have a lot of great albums and singles they have released and one of the best bands to come out of the United Kingdom.

With The Smiths being so good at what they do unfortunately the lead singer and most well-known of the band Morrissey is actually a bad person outside the music that he has done with The Smiths but I like to look at it like a “separate the art from the artist” type situation. With Morrissey being the most popular and well-known in the band as well as being the frontman, whatever he does as an individual could have an effect on the entire outlook of the music and band.

Although there is controversy around The Smiths you can not lie that their music is amazing and such an experience to listen to and over time they have become one of my personal favorite bands. Some of The Smith’s best songs in my opinion are “Still ill, This Charming Man, There is a Light never goes out, Bigmouth strikes again, Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now, and Cemetery Gates’ ‘ but most songs they make I’m sure are good as well. The Smiths are just one of the prime examples of how good the music that comes out of The United Kingdom really is, English Rock is amazing and The Smiths are an amazing band that have been around for a long time.
