Mending Mindsets Continues Message of Well-Being on Campus

By: Emily Osher

“This club absolutely means so much!  I overall want to create a good environment around campus and help students feel good about themselves. I really wanted to have a big impact on kids who are and who are not struggling to improve their mental health,” proclaimed Natalia Ardon

As the upcoming 2023-2024 year arrives, Mending Mindsets will be joining our students for year two. Mending Mindsets is a club that focuses on mental health and overall well-being. This club is to help all students at El Diamante who struggle with mental health as well as students who don’t and just want to feel heard or need a safe space to talk.

Club creator and last year’s president, Madison Garcia

I talked to the  founder of the club, Madison Garcia, on why she originally started, she said “ I started this club because I myself have struggled with my mental health, especially during high school. I often felt alone and like no one else felt the way I did, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. I wanted to make a safe place where students could work through and talk about their mental health struggles with people who understood what they were going through.”

The club strives for ensuring our students of all grades know they aren’t alone in rough times of being a high-schooler. Anyone and everyone is welcome to join. It’s all about creating a safe space for our students.

This is the only club at El Diamante that is focused on mental health. Everyone in the club is thrilled to learn about one another and experience this year having each other.

This is Mr. Perez’s second year being the teacher advisor for Mending Mindsets, he says “The goal is that more kids will see that it’s okay to talk about mental health issues and hopefully it’ll be better for the school as a whole, more kids will feel more inclined to reach out and get help when they feel they need it.”

The club truly wants to just create a space for students in all grades to know there’s a club welcoming them at any time . Mending Mindsets will be doing different activities related to figuring who you are and just giving you a calm 40-minute part of your day.

If interested the club meets at Mrs. Jacobsma’s homeroom every other Thursday starting August 31st.
