Cross Country Brings Home Medals, Personal Bests in Madera

Last weekend Saturday, August 26 the El Diamante cross country team traveled to Madera South High School to compete in the Dennis Dewitt Invitational. This was a 3,000-meter race around the school’s campus. 

Seven athletes placed in the top 10 of their races. Moises Bravo, Isabella Avalos, Sinai Bobadilla, Maya Gutierrez, Brooklyn Bawanan, Devin Ibarra, and Rylee McDaniels. Devin Ibarra and Brooklyn Bawanan both place 1st in their races. 

Devin stated, “Going into the race I felt very good and very confident that I was gonna win. My training definitely paid off and all the hard days made it all worth it”. 

 Devin was awarded outstanding male runner of the day with a finishing time of 8:59.7. 

Brooklyn Bawanan’s finishing time was 10.57.5. She describes her race day as “a great way to start the season”.

She enjoyed “seeing the smiles on the faces of people who earned adorable horseshoe medals.” The team will compete at the Sanger XC Invitational on Friday, September 8th. Way to go Miners!
