Meet the HOCO King and Queen of Candyland!

By Addison Tripp

After multiple selections and votes, it has been decided that our Homecoming King and Queen are Jayden Lopez and Macie Kenison. This past Friday, El Diamante voted for the top two out of ten candidates. The final result was announced at Friday’s homecoming game against Redwood. After getting elected they were interviewed and asked questions to learn more about them, their time at El Diamante, and the process of being elected our homecoming top two.

Jayden Lopez was nominated by ASB. He describes winning as “great, with an overall amazing week.” Jayden explained that being Homecoming King never really crossed his mind when he was an underclassman. He didn’t have much interest in it before senior year, but was glad he got to experience it. The best part of the Homecoming process for him was the parade, seeing all of the students having fun. When asked about how he promoted himself throughout the week Jayden explained that in the moment, social media was the best way to spread the word, but beyond that it was “getting to know everyone throughout the years, being respectful and kind to people on the way”.

Jayden added that his best high school memory wasn’t anything specific, only a great time overall. After high school, he is going to the fire academy. He is going straight to college, where he is going to study and get to work right away. He loved high school but is ready to move on to the next chapter of his life. Jayden’s best advice to underclassmen and students is to “stay humble and respectful”.

Macie Kenison was nominated by Mr. Robb’s homeroom. She described winning as “surreal.” Macie also didn’t think much about being homecoming queen before Senior year but has loved the experience. Macie described that the best part of Homecoming was “getting out of her comfort zone”.  In order to promote herself, Macie made T-shirts and index cards.

Macie’s best high school memory is “winning homecoming queen”. After high school, Macie hopes to go to college and get a good job. Macie has loved high school but is also ready to leave. Her best advice to underclassmen is “to try new things, because that is how you get to places like this”.
