Girls Golf Ends a Successful Season; Players Proud of Season Records

By Briannah Perry

The El Diamante Girls Golf Team had an amazing season this year and ended second in the league. They worked hard each day at practice and it paid off. A highlight of their season is when they played Redwood and beat them twice, giving Redwood their first league loss in two years. The most significant moment of their season was when they made Area Qualifiers for the second time in twelve years.

All the El Diamante girls were in the top 25 for the league and put their all into the season. Audrey Barber is a sophomore on the team and was recognized as the number two golfer in the league. Barber holds the team record for best individual league scoring in program history.

Barber exclaims that “[She] is dedicated to this team as a record-setting player.”

Team captain Callie Wastson was a senior on this year’s golf team and was an inspiration for many.

Watson shares, “It has been one of the best seasons we have had since I have been on the team in both our scores and team chemistry.”

Callie has played golf for four years and has been the team captain for two years.

Senior golfer, Sophia Saesee explains that her favorite part is, “when everyone is happy and cheers together after having a good match and when everyone is happy about their scores.”

The miners went to Valley Championships on Friday, October 24th, and placed 4th overall. They played in Lemoore at 9 am and were in Division 3. The seniors felt bittersweet knowing that it was their last time playing with their team. Overall the girls were proud of how far they went and were glad to be in it together as a team.
