This past weekend on Saturday, December 9 EDHS’ auto-shop teacher Mr. Perez organized and presented the first Cars and Coffee with the help of his students and others. It was a very cold morning and coffee was just the right thing to get the day started. Lots of people had fun walking around looking at all the different cool cars while sipping on some coffee. The Dig interviewed Mr. Perez to learn more about this inaugural event.
What was the inspiration to bring cars and coffee to school?
“The inspiration to bring cars and coffee to El D was my students wanted [to showcase] our vehicles and what we’ve done in this class. Another big reason to have cars and coffee is to show the community we have evolved as a shop.”
How would you say the preparation/process is going?
“It’s going pretty well, I’ve never done this before, it’s all new to me and my students, but I think the preparation is pretty good. We’ve spread the word via social media. That instagram is dedicated to my students.” If you would like to check it out his instagram is @mrperezautoshop.
How does the school/staff feel about this event happening?
“I think they’re all excited about it and they’re excited to see that the auto program is also evolving for the better.”
If this is a success would you like to bring it back?
“Yeah I actually talked to Mrs. Nelson and I’m hoping this is a monthly thing, if not every two months, but I would like it to be a reoccurring event.“
