By Morgan Phillipe

The new movie, Anyone But You, is a rom-com that was first released on December 22nd and has surpassed 100 million at the global box office. The two famous actors, Glen Powel and Sydney Sweeney brought in a lot of attention starring in a movie together.

Movie Stars: Glen Powel, Sydney Sweeney

Without giving away too much, this movie revolves around two people who had a cute date that ended terribly and months later they find out their best friends are going to get married, so in order to get through the wedding without causing trouble, they decide to fake a date.

After seeing this movie, I was in shock at how much it seemed like the 2000s rom-coms I grew up watching all the time. I feel like they did a great job casting two people who go through a heated, yet also hilarious fake dating trope. For anyone who can’t see themselves sitting in a movie theater for over three hours, you’re in luck because this movie is only an hour and 40 minutes long. Even though I really enjoyed watching this movie, I was surprised to find out that it received a positive rating of 87% on Rotten Tomatoes. If you are looking for a light-hearted and amusing movie to watch, then I highly recommend this one.

A fun fact about this movie is that it’s based on Shakespeare’s play Much Ado About Nothing and if you’ve read his play then you’ll see parts of the book incorporated throughout the movie! What’s also really cool is that part of this movie was shot in Sydney, Australia and that Australian model, Charlee Fraser played one of the friends. Two surprising stars I wasn’t expecting to see were Darren Bartnet, known for his role in Never Have I Ever, and Dermot Mulroney who’s been in many well-known movies like My Best Friend’s Wedding.

The movie’s two stars, Glen Powel and Syndey Sweeny, both have a very positive take on how it felt filming for this movie. Syndey Sweeny says, “I loved that it was a modern take on a Shakespearean story (‘Much Ado About Nothing’), and the way it was written just really caught my eye”.

Not only is Sydney Sweeney becoming more popular on screen, but it turns out that she was also an executive producer for this movie. She also started her own production company, fifty-fifty films in 2020.

When Glen Powel was asked how he felt about working with Sydney Sweeny he responded “What she does on-screen is electric. I would work with her again in a heartbeat”. According to Glen Powell, it seems like they had a lot of fun and laughs on and off screen together.

This incredibly funny movie is still playing in theaters so you should definitely give it a chance and go to a movie theater or if you can’t stand going to them then you can wait for it to be released on Netflix on April 20th.
